Cornbread is a staple on many tables across the U.S. Its not only something to have with your entree’ but it can transform into a dessert.

Cornbread goes with almost anything. From Ribs to Pulled Pork to Stews to Black eye peas and greens, this food item is versatile. But what about making this a dessert?

Wait, what am I saying? Cornbread as a dessert? YES! Warm your cornbread and place butter and/or honey on it. This makes for a dessert after your main meal. But wait, there is one other way to eat your cornbread for a dessert or as a snack before bedtime.

Got Milk? That great commercial that everyone has seen. Well, my grandparents introduced me to cornbread and milk before bedtime. My grandfather liked whole milk while my grandmother liked butter milk.

When it comes to cornbread – regular or sweet, eat it however you want. There is no right way or wrong way. Well, the wrong way would be to throw it away.

1-cup cornmeal
1-cup flour
1 egg (maybe 2) if double recipe, use 3 eggs
4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1-cup milk
1/4-cup sugar
1/4 cup shortening

Mix dry stuff
Add wet stuff
Lightly mix

425-degree oven
20 to 25 minutes
